Computers are excellent for many things, but it also brings a lot of distractions, which can hinder your work considerably, especially if your work involves writing. Unless you intend to throw your computer out the window and get a typewriter, you can turn to a specialized piece of software. Cold Turkey is a simple, but efficient solution for this particular issue. In a way, the software forces you to focus on your work. It is a simple text editor, with next to no options, which you may close only when a certain goal is met.

The application is available in free and paid versions and you can have it up and running in no time. It's just one executable file, which you can run immediately after your download it. There are no special requirements you have to meet and you don't need to sacrifice too many resources.

When launched, Cold Turkey will display a text editor, which consists only of a blank page and almost no options. Before you can start typing, you have to set a goal. This can be a certain number of words or a certain amount of time spent working. Until that goal is met, you won't be able to quit or alt+tab out of the application.

Besides starting a new project with a certain goal, you can open an existing document, with the same goal. It is also possible to start without setting a goal, if you are not sure you will be able to meet it. Furthermore, a few options are available in a menu, which can be accessed in the lower left corner of the screen. They allow you to disable certain keys, change the text size and more.

When working with Cold Turkey, you won't be distracted by anything, even if you wanted to.
